OS:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Problem:
I have set up three user accounts; 1 admin, 1 standard user and 1 guest.
I want to change the visual effects setting to Adjust for Best Performance for all three accounts.
As admin I can change the settings for the admin account without problems. When I log in to the standard account and make the changes in system properties (after first entering the admin password) it seems to work at first, but when I log out and then return to the standard account later the settings have switched back to default, which I guess is "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer".
The same thing happens when I try to change the visual effects on the guest account.
An interesting detail is that when I do log back in and see that the settings have changed back to default, I take a look in the system properties window and the "Adjust for best performance" option is still ticked!
I've already changed the theme for all three accounts to Windows Classic (and that adjustment is saved in all three user accounts), so it's almost the way I want it. I just need to get rid of the visual effects in the advanced system properties. It seems weird that Windows won't let me do it, I can change everything else within the standard user and guest account so a change in visuals doesn't seem to be that big of a deal.
Summary:
When I'm logged in as admin I can adjust the settings for visual effects and the changes are saved.
When I'm logged in as a standard user or as a guest I can adjust the settings but the changes aren't saved.
