USB Mouse/Kybd not work'g - Compaq Evo Win XP - Trying to login to Win XP but can't do anything because neither the Keyboard or Mouse work. I've seen a couple of responses on this site telling me to Navigate to the Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus controllers....I don't know who you have answering questions here but, do they NOT understand that the Mouse and Kybd DO NOT WORK?

Does anyone have an idea that is feasable?

Are you serious? I need an answer that will actually work. Yes...I've rebooted.....several times. Did not work.

Hit F8 before windows boots and try safe mode.

If that doesn't work, buy a PS2 mouse.

If the USB controller is shot, then even new keyboards or mice won't work. Do you have aPS/2 keyboard & mouse you can try?

You might also try Clearing CMOS to get back to the default configuration. Maybe that will let the USB keyboard and mousr function.

Tried Safe Mode...no change. Checked BIOS to make sure USB ports enabled...they are...all 4.

I am borrowing a PS/2 mouse and keyboard from work. That was my next step. Any suggestions if that doesn't work? Would pulling & replacing the CMOS Battery work?

But....my USB Kybd worked to get into the BIOS and all 4 USB Ports are enabled. Not the issue.

There seems to be issues pertaining to XP/Windows 7. I have the same problem. I just simply won't install a Universal Serial Bus Controller until I know this issue won't happen.

Supposedly there is a fix for this on windows website, but it wouldn't even install for me.

Sorry my friend but your toast, I had the same problem with my Evo laptop. As of April 2014 we all now know XP is no longer supported MSN, so the fix or fixes' for your problem no longer exist. Got to admit I had to get over it and move on. My Evo (1 sweet laptop) and 2002-3 xp is now considered a fossil.

Heck my Evo (although Compaq) was a cool machine, but it wouldn't be able to handle todays platform demands. Plus it's not worth beefing it up to do so. Just by a new eng. same cost optimum performance, or even a refurbished one kills the headaches..

But you can hold onto it for when the TV show Pickers/.Storage Wars comes a calling in 5yrs and maybe cash in that way... lol
