Installing Windows 7 from usb key. I get to the Install > and it gives me the above message. I've checked the USB Key is fine on another computer, all checks out. I used mobaliveCD to check the usb boot worked properly and that was fine.

USB is first in boot priority, it does get to the install button (this is right after the first bit where you select language etc) and AHCI is enabled in BIOS. It just can't see the usb drive when it tried to locate drivers when installing windows. I think im stuffed but thought I would see if people cleverer than me could help.

Many thanks,
Ginger.

Yep, tried that and then tried another usb tool just in case, no luck. I mean, it boots from the usb drive fine. It gets to the Install logo for windows and then it just can't find drivers. And browsing files shows that it can't see the stick. Which is the stick it just boot from... I suspect i need mobo drivers or some such but i havent got a dvd drive to load them from. Which i think might be my downfall here.

do you have a newer intel or amd mb. if it newer intel mb or amd mb you may have to use a slipstream program and install the motherboard chipset drivers. if you can on the windows install if there f6 advance mode install where you can put the chipset inf in.

Thanks Smorizio but it wasn't that. So here's what I tried. I took the laptop hard drive out of my laptop and stuck it into my desktop reformatted it as NTFS and then created a 4 gig partition on that drive. I then copied all the files from my bootable USB stick to that partition, stuck it back into the laptop and then booted from the usb stick and it found the drivers on the hard drive, so i got one more step through the install process.

trouble is, when it asks me where i want to install windows it returns the error message : "Setup was unable create a new system partition". googling tells me i need to clean the entire hard drive and try again, the trouble is I can't do that as I need the install files on the hard-drive because it cannot read them straight from USB (i suspect because the usb ports are USB 3 or some such).

Any ideas? Thanks for your help so far.
