Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new router, my old Belkin N+ router is unreliable and drops speeds constantly. I have no real budget and am willing to spend 200+ on high end AC routers. I get about 58mbps download on speed-test normally.

Is a super high end router worth it? I game heavily on a wired connection and have about 5-8 devices connected wireless at any point during the day.

Any insight or product recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate the quick responses and while the linked router does look nice, I'd like some insight into my original question. Are high end AC enabled routers worth the extra $$$ for gaming / power users?

Gaming uses relatively little bandwidth, most games are under 500kbits/sec and some like WOW can be played on a dialup modem.

Since you are already wired for you gaming it should be good.

Wireless does not pay to buy a lot more than your ISP speed. Sure you can get 450m or whatever but that only allows you to transfer files INSIDE you house faster you will still be limited to the max speed on your internet connection.

I would try it with just you on the router and then directly plugged into the modem. You should see no slowdowns like this if you do it is likely some issue with the modem or the connection to your house.
