Where should I put my thermal heat probes and how?

I just recently installed a new CPU cooler and am going to be installing 4 heat probes. I am planning to over clock so I want to observe my CPU closely, along with the whole machine graphics card ect. I am new to over clocking and putting probes in. Where should I put them exactly and how should I do it? Thanks

Generally , one would monitor the CPU area, graphics card area, HDD area, and maybe the RAM area.

I understand those areas are recommended but how should I put them in those areas? Exactly where and how and thanks for answering so far.
