Boot from a damaged partition

So the story goes like this, one night when i shut down my pc i saw it installing some updates while turning off (typical windows, thought nothing of it). Went to sleep and the next day when i turned it on it wouldn't boot i only saw a black screen with the cursor blinking and after a while i got an error i cant remember.
It wouldn't even get to the boot loader to give me the choice of windows or Linux (dual boot on the same drive but partitioned) neither access the bios, tried reinstalling windows and it wouldn't let me, tried fixmbr, fixboot and chkdsk but all that did was mess it up even more, now it didn't even show an error it did nothing just a black screen with a blinking cursor i then installed windows on the linux partition i had which booted fine.

My question is, now that i have it working how can i boot from the other partition with my old system? its not formatted i can see everything on that partition from the new windows installation but don't want to reinstall everything from scratch is there any way to fix it now that i can boot to at least somewhere??

Thanks in advance,
Nicolas.
