Can older heatsink be used on newer CPUs?

If the heatsink will dissapate enough heat and you have a mounting bracket that will work, yes it can.

From the pictures I looked at I am not sure how well it would cool them. It might be cheaper to just get a new heatsink.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I think the Stock heat sink will be fine on my son's new build, the CPU is an I5-4570 which is not Overclockable so it should handle the heat fine.

To be honest, even if you are not overclocking. I would pay 20-30$ to get a Hyper 212 Evo. No doubt its leagues better than stock, and probably no chance of overheating if you aren't OCing.
