Motherboard and CPU incompatibilities?

First time build. Made sure I was grounded, constantly touched the case to ground. I hardly ever get static shocked.

I just recently received all my computer parts in the mail for my new build. I can't get a post beep. I've tried breadboarding with just the CPU, stock CPU fan, PSU and speaker and still no beep. I went to PCPartpicker and I had this warning "Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs."

My MOBO is a ASRock 970 Extreme4
My CPU is AMD FX6300 Black Edition

Note: CPU power, CPU Fan, Speaker, and MOBO power are all plugged in.
CPU fan & PSU fan come on, Debug LED shows "OO" (Two zeroes)

When installing the stock CPU fan, it was pretty tight. When I pushed the lever down in shifted and slid back towards the IO shield about a 1/16th of an inch. Tried to boot, no post beep. So I pulled the CPU to make sure everything was okay, no pins were bent.

Thanks in advance!

Solution

That's correct. Just usually the motherboard makes you put it in a weird slot like the 2 from the left instead of the one closest to the processor.

Check all of your power connections, make sure there aren't missing prongs in the sockets or anything weird like that. Double check...

Yeah that makes sense, I didn't even think about AMD and Intel.

Is there any steps to take to even try to get a post beep? I mean, I know the MOBO is coming on. I know the CPU fan is working. I've tried removing stock heatsink off the CPU and trying to boot without it actually touching the CPU but leaving the fan plugged in and still nothing. Thanks for the quick reply

I tried to do it without the RAM to see if I can get the multiple beeps and still nothing. I'm only using one stick of 8gb RAM for now, it says dual channel. You should still be able to use one stick right?

I'll go check the manual again and get back to you.

Yeah that didn't work either.

Yeah I went through that. I did my research to the best of my abilities before I came here to bug you guys, ha!

My CPU Power connection has CPU stamped on it and it's 6-pin, has no issue going in. It also has all metal male and female leads. My motherboards 24-pin also has all male and female metal leads. None are bent on either connector.
I guess it's the CPU, everything else seems to be working... Depressing

No, I mapped the motherboard holes with a piece of paper then installed them. When I took the motherboard out to try it on the box all brass standoffs were accounted for. I was extremely careful not to drop anything in the case while I was installing it. Though, I did drop a screw when i was trying to mount the board, but I recovered it. Surely that wasn't enough to short something? I haven't even powered the PSU then. Unless the PSU is the culprit.. But everything(debug led, cpu fan, even HDD and Disk Drive when plugged in) seems to be coming on when I power it up

I'm debating which part to send back, which do you think? CPU, Motherboard, or both?

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong.. The CPU wasn't seating all the way in. I took it back out and lifted the locking arm. Checked the pins and put it back in there. Instead of just latching it, I placed my finger on the edges and lightly pushed down while I locked the arm in.. The Debug is now giving me codes and beeping. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help!

Windows is installing, thanks for all the help. It's pretty funny how one tiny thing can hold up an entire build. I learned a lot from my first build. I'll know what NOT to do in the future ha!
