So i just built my first ever computer and installed windows 7 64bit, i currently have no internet connection. My computer says,"windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver". I have an Asrock 990fx killer motherboard, I am wondering what to do to get internet? I have not put in my motherboard disk into my computer( i am wondering if, if i put that in it will install all of the updates or something for my mobo).

Solution
Yes, put your motherboard disk in and run the setup. You need that disk to get drivers for the hardware on your motherboard, such as the integrated Ethernet port, among others.

You should be able to run Device Manager from the Start Menu Search, and when it comes up there will be a yellow exclamation point on any hardware that Windows does not have drivers for and cannot talk to. That will give you a clue as to what you're missing. Worst case go to your motherboard maker's website, find your model, and download all the device drivers they have there. At least one of them will be your Ethernet network port, unless you're using a discrete network interface card (NIC).

If you build any more computers, you will learn that there are three main steps (and a few others) to the process:

1) Put the hardware together
2) Install the operating system (Windows in your case)
3) Install device drivers (motherboard and video card drivers)
4) Patch Windows repeatedly until there are no more patches
5) Install applications (e.g., Office, games, etc.)

You just never got to step three!
