Ever since my friend upgraded to a GTX 760 he has been having problems. He turns on his computer and about 2-3 minutes it will just crash with buzzing in his headset but his computer fan is still on. I don't think its his graphic card this time because he ACTUALLY sent back his GTX 760 because it was having the same problem (MSI RMA). So its his second card and I think it is very unlikely you would get 2 lemons.

I am thinking maybe I didn't install the drivers right but when he was RMA his GTX 760 I let him borrow my old GTX 560 (non ti) and it was fine until he installed his new GTX 760.
What do you all think is wrong?

I would also suspect a possible power supply issue. It could also be a heat issue, though the 560 would probably get just as hot, so I'm not sure why the 760 would trigger a problem there and the 560 doesn't. More information on the PSU would be helpful.

Depending on what else he has in the system, how much he's overclocked, and the age of that power supply, that might be the issue. It's not a particularly great unit to begin with, and his system is probably near it's upper limit, especially if it has some age to it. Do you have access to another power supply to test in his system?

This exact same thing happened to me (including the buzzing) with my GTX 780 and it pissed me off for about 2 weeks. I RMA'd it after overcoming my laziness and the new unit I received worked and is still working. Odds are your friend got another dead unit. It's rare, but it happens.

Edit: Trust me on this. I went to great lengths to troubleshoot from installing different drivers to buying a completely new PSU. You could even Google your problem and find plenty of my threads when I was dealing with this issue. Your issue and my issue are exactly identical.

1. The TR2 is not a 80PLUS rated PSU.
2. It has only 17+18A on 2 12V rails. That means a combined output of only around 28 A on the 12V rail.
The 760 uses 170W(14.16A) of power on full load. I'm doubtful the TR2 500 is able to support such a powerful card.
3. Buzzing noise indicates that the PSU is giving out electrical noise. Maybe one of the coils is going bad.

His specs are as below:
1920x1080 monitor- Acer G5 G215HVBbd
Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB
MSI Gaming N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 760 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card
CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Thermaltake TR2 TR-500 500W
ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - stock

I can't do testing for a while because of school and him bringing his computer to my house to do all these stuff is a hassle. I would let him borrow mine but my PSU is cabled tied and all fancy so I rather not do it again. But I do have a old 200watt PSU from a old HP tower but I don't think that will work. He doesn't overclock at all.
I am pretty sure we built his computer around beginning of June 2013.

I just don't think that would be it because if something IS wrong with the PSU, how would it even power up? Or even show the "Starting Windows" screen? If it couldn't even power on the 760 then how is he still getting images on the monitor?

I am pretty sure he has 3 fans (2 120mm and 1 140mm I think) it was the antec three hundred case i believe. Also I said nothing about SLI. He also just has 1TB hard drive and thats about all. Fans don't take much watts than a graphic card.

I'll tell him this but I don't think he'll be happy about that. I think he submitted his card in January and got it back I think a week ago. I don't think he'll be happy waiting for another month waiting to play BF4 on high...

He had a 7850 which I now own. I changed his drivers but should I try CCCleaner because I just uninstalled using the DDU program from guru3D. I don't think thats it though because when his 760 was being RMA, I let him borrow my 560 because I now have his 7850, and it worked fine.
