Hello all, thank you for your time. I have an HP Phoenix H9-1350 and it has a 2TB HDD coupled with a 16GB SS cache drive. I was wondering if there are any benefits to upgrading the cache drive and, if so, whats a good size to upgrade to(best cost/performance)?

Is the cache drive a full 2.5" drive or is it a micro SATA drive. Actually I'm not sure that matters really since mSATA sizes have come up to match those of the 2.5" drives anyway with the new Samsung 840 EVO series.

My advice would be to ditch the idea of a cache drive and buy a SSD (250GB or greater) and run it as your boot drive. Only install the OS and whatever applications you really need to launch quickly. Don't fill the SSD more than 60-75% so your write speeds don't suffer. Then put all your User files, applications and games on the HDD.

This would be the best upgrade path. You can find the Samsung EVO drives for less than $1/GB so a you could get a 250GB drive for around $190.

If you go this route, make sure the SSD gets connected to a SATA III connector so you get the most from the drive.
