Has someone this motherboard with 32GB memory? I'm an artist and I want to go up to 32GB for massive 3D editing, rendering, Photoshop digital painting, video editing. 16GB is simply not enough for huge renderings above 50-100 million polys. I'm also struggling in photoshop when I have 15 layers in 8K res. I use 3ds max, vray, ps, fusion, after effects, sony vegas, zbrush etc. I read in a few forums that 32GB is sometimes problematic in some motherboards, because it his hitting the max memory limit. I also had problems with my old Z68 Fatal1ty professional Gen3 mobo, it couldn't handle 32GB memory, so I had to sell them. It was OK with 16GB, unstable with 24GB, bluescreened with 32GB. I was playing with it for months with timings, bios update, testing one by one etc. Done dozens of memory test, mems were ok, they worked fine in my friends Z77 mobo. These memories were a 4x8GB quadkit Corsair Vengeance.

My rig:
ASRock Z87 Extreme6
Intel i7 4770K (Corsair H100i cooler)
16GB Corsair Vengeance
Sapphire 7970 GHz Ed. Vapor-X 6GB
Crucial M4 256GB SSD
2x1 TB Seagate
Corsair HX850 PSU
Storm trooper case

Thank you in advance for any tips or help.

Most all 4 stick sets are advertised as quad channel, they work fine in dual channel (if you have 4 slots), the DRAM itself isn't programmed for single, dual, tri or quad, they are all individual 64 bit devices, when a dual channel MC ssees themcorrectly set upin dual it uses them as a single 128 bit device, or in the caase of a 2011 (quad MC) as a 256 bit device. As far as the QVL lists go, they are pretty worthless, see here:

If you have any problems with the Z87 give us a shout, many had problems with the Z68 mobos, most manufacturers didn't really give them the support BIOS wise they should have as they came out not long before the Z77 and never really took off

Thank you for the reply Tradesman1. I'll reply when I have the memories then. I try to buy G.Skill, but unfortunately it is not available here in Hungary. I think I should buy a 32GB kit from those that are in the official memory support list, and have been tested by the manufacturer in this motherboard. Is it correct? And what is happening when someone buys something that is not in the support list? Will it work? I just ask because my friend has 32GB Corsair vengeance memories (CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R), but those are quad channel, and if I remember correct quad channel is only supported in X79 chipsets in the LGA2011 motherboards. Are quad channel memories working in dual channel motherboards? He is selling those mems, maybe I could borrow them to try if they are working or not. They have 10 years warranty, and he's not using them.

Thank you so much for the reply and information you linked above Tradesman1. I'll give a shot for these Corsair memories I mentioned. Mems are new, they were used for a few days only, and I could buy from my friend/colleague 25-30% cheaper than a new one. Since I'm an artist, and I work on PC, I see a different side of hardwares than the overclockers. For me it's more important the amount of memory than the speed it could run. For example if these Corsair mems (which are 1866MHz) can run only in 1600MHz, doesn't matter for me. If they can run only in 1333 it's still ok, though would be better on 1600 since it is a standard for most CPU-s, but I won't have a heart attack. When I'm rendering with Vray or painting in PS when I run out of memory these programs starting to eat up hard disk space which is normal. Performance wise the same goes for the CPU. When I'm rendering an animation for days, or maybe weeks I use the CPU 100%. That's the reason why I overclocked it only to 3,9 GHz, though I have H100i and 4770K. For me it's more important to keep the system cool and stable, but these things are off topic.

I'll try these memories, and if they won't work, I'll check other memory types / brands, and I'll also check compatibility by the RAM manufacturer. The memories I mentioned are not supporting this motherboard, I checked Corsair's website, even though I'll try, I'm curious :) . I'll reply if they work or not, or in the case I had to buy other brand, or need help.

Anyway, thanks again for the help/replies. Wish you all the best in the future! Take Care!

P.S. Sorry for bad english. :)

Hi there.
I'm running a 32GB kit in the Z87 Extreme6 for a week now. Something was not okay with the Corsair which I borrowed from my friend for testing (CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R), it was generating random and unexpected failures in the mobo. (Only 24GB was visible, PC couldn't boot up, random rebooting when the system was up, etc.) We tried everything with the Corsair Support guys, with no success, so I gave back this kit to my friend. I've had a big luck to test these memories before buying. Luckily enough I have a really good friendship with Bluechip, so I bought a Kingston memory kit from there. I bought Kingston 32GB (KHX21C11T3K4/32X) with 10 years warranty. I'm running these memories for a week now in 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-27) 1.6V without any problems. Of course it needs a voltage above 1.5V to get it stable, but these mems are 1.65V kit anyways.

Thank you again the help. Really appreciate it.

This could probably be due to the factor that CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R is designed for use with all motherboards with quad DDR3 memory channels whereas Asus Extreme VI has Dual Channel Memory Architecture.

BIOS update should have resolved the issue unless kit itself is not bad.
