Can I use 12V 500mA DC adapter for my ADSL Modem that requires 10V 550mA input?

Modem: UTstarcom (UT300RTU), 10V 500mA

ERD AC/DC Adapter: 12V 550mA

no, you will damage the modem. It will work for a time then something will pop in the modem due to the over-voltage.

At present I have used the modem for past 1 hour, the device seems to get slightly heated but works fine. I don't know whether to use it by this way or buy a proper adapter?
