Hello,

Hoping someone can help me please.

I recently purchased (2 days ago) an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 760 2GB and put that in my PC and its working fine from what I can see. Games appear better generally etc - After reading some reviews and whilst I have an opportunity to return the GFX Card for a full refund I also purchased the MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 2GB as it's only £50 more and according to reviews it's much better performance so I bought it which arrived this morning.

So as it stands I have 2 GFX cards. 1 has to go back very soon so I can get a refund. The problem is when I installed the GTX 770 this morning and ran a game as a test the PSU started making strange sound and straight away I thought it's not got enough to power the 770 properly which I believe requires 600W 42amps.

My current PSU is old, it's an EZcool 700W Model: ATX-700 JSP

In addition the couple of games that I tried using with the GTX 770 appear to jerk a little and to be honest I didn't see any increase in speed (FPS) over the GTX 760. So I'm just wondering if that's due to not enough power going to the card so it can perform as it needs to. Would that definitely be the case?

Anyway I'd like to keep the GTX 770 and return the GTX 760 to the supplier and I'm thinking of getting this PSU:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-corsair-builder-ser...

Says it's 12v single rail 46amps so I'm thinking it should do the trick.

Now my question is this as I'm not that up to speed with PSU motherboards etc.. The PSU appears to have the 24pin MB connector and an 8pin CPU/power connector. My current EZcool PSU has only a 4pin power connector and on the MB is only a 4in socket so I'm worried.

Will that 8pin power connector from the new PSU split into a 2x 4pin or do I have to do something else?

Advice would be greatly appreciated

And just to conclude do you guys suggest I keep the GTX 760 and return the 770 and keep my existing PSU or just buy a new PSU and keep the 770 and will I see an increase in performance when the new GFX card gets the power that it requires?

Kind regards,
Thanks in advance,
KC

If u have a good cpu and mobo you go for 770 or else 760 because of bottleneck and also which pcie slot does your mobo have ?

Then there is no use of 770. Even 760 is overkill. You will bottleneck your card. That's why your fps is limited. My suggestion is to build a new system with any of the above cards according to your budget.

I think the PSU is causing the problem - Anymore thoughts in relation to my initial post. Surely a sufficient PSU with the correct amps will sort out the problem. Novabench test on 760 = 1026 FPS ... Novabench test on 770 gives out 1287 FPS with PSU struggling making noise .. Obviously the 770 is performing better but my concern is the PSU and also I don't have much choice but to either get a new PSU or stick with the 760. I have no budget only the money I have to mess around with these 2 cards which I've already invested just over £400.

I'm not giving up I really need advice .. Anymore thoughts peeps in relation to my initial post as I don't think a new build is in order. I am seeing results and I'm using logic here to come up with a solution. I need to know if the new PSU's 8pin connector can be split so it plugs into my MB. 46amps on a 12v rail should do the job I just want input before I decide and I've got very little time left as I have to send one of my GFX cards back to the supplier.

I can say this though - The 760 has seriously improved my machine I can play all games 1080p without much struggle good FPS on v.high settings - I've read it doesn't matter if you put a card into a PCI 2.0 slot as they are backward compatible so why not go for something that I can benefit from...

Thanks

Furthermore after doing some more research in this bottlenecking GPU madness which to be honest has not answered my questions anyway - I've been told that if the GPU is running at nearly 100% full load then this is not bottlenecked. I've installed MSI afterburner GPU monitoring and I can confirm that my GPU both the 760 and 770 under load hit the 90-98% region so what do you reckon?

Anyway can someone please advice on my post regarding the PSU and it's shabby connectors as I'm becoming frustrated!

Buy quality connectors for the psu from ebay.
