I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 and did all my updates (including SP1) and decided last night I would leave my computer mining all night and when I got up this morning, I'd noticed my cgminer had been interrupted, because my SSD had powered down. I go to Power Options and sure enough, I'm set to Balanced Power. I set it to Performance and then check settings and "Turn hard disks off after" is set to 20 minutes. I click on it, and it only lets me specify minutes and won't allow me to set it to "Never." Why? I'm the one who installed Windows, I'm the admin, so nobody's blocked anything with Group Policy..

I personally don't believe in using sleep options on a desktop, and I always turn *all* that off anyway, as I burnt a motherboard one time during sleep mode once while testing Windows Vista back in the day. Either way, I've made enough upgrades to my system to invalidate my product key *again* so I went to a modded Windows 8.1 for efficiency and all is good.
