How do I install windows 8.1 on an ssd

You can use disk cloning software to clone the contents of the HDD onto the SSD (provided there isn't more used space on the HDD than the SSD has available). Software of this kind includes Norton Ghost or Acronis. It's possible the SSD came with a disk that includes a cloning tool though.

Windows 8 came preinstalled on my hdd, its from another PC. Its a desktop, the SSD is a Kingston HyperX 120gb, the HDD is a 500gb Hitachi, I'm currently using 311/453gb on the HDD. it has 142gb free.

"Windows 8 came preinstalled on my hdd, its from another PC"
That Win 8 license is tied to that original hardware.

" the SSD is a Kingston HyperX 120gb" ... "I'm currently using 311/453gb on the HDD"
Cloning will not work. You can't squeeze 311GB of stuff into a 120GB drive.

Just thought of this during school today. What if I bough a second hard drive, lets say 1TB. If I transferred all the data minus windows 8 and a few select programs, could I then clone the remaining data (windows 8) from the old hard drive to the ssd?

The preinstalled Windows license is licensed to the original PC. It will not work on the new PC.
