I have a Gateway DX4870-UB318, Completely stock. I'm looking to get a graphics card and the power supply is obviously going to need an upgrade. Id like to know what card and supply combo can work and if I will need to buy extra pin cables or if they come with it or not. 2 GB card only.

More about : graphics card power supply upgrade

im searching google and finding nothing on that model gateway. more information would be nice, especially what size the case is and what cpu/motherboard is inside of it.

well its a fairly decent computer for a store model. it has a very decent quad core ivy bridge cpu. what is your budget for both the power supply and graphics card?

off the top of my head for more than decent 1080p gaming....

but if you could take the side panel off and measure the distance from the back of the computer to the drive bays to know what the max length of the video card can be(where the pcie16x lane is) would be nice.

the xfx is a seasonic made power supply and is extremely reliable. the gtx760 is about as high a tier graphics card you would want to run with that i5-3330 quad core. you can always spend a little less if you want.

10'' From back to drive slots, looking at around max of $650 can do a little over if necessary

$650 is a very large budget, and if your limited to 10" then its going to be an extremely tight fit for any top echelon graphics cards like the gtx780 or r9-290. i honestly thing they are a little overkill if your going to be gaming at 1080p. also since the i5-3330 isn't overclockable you would start to bottleneck top echelon cards. i think the asus 760 and the xfx pro 550w for $300ish would be a perfect match for the i5 you have. the asus 760 is advertised to be 8.6" long so you shouldnt have any trouble there. if you really wanted to you could get a z77 motherboard and an ivy bridge 3570k for about $300 plus a $30 hyper 212 evo air cooler and be able to overclock. but going through all that trouble it would be better to just get a whole new computer and scavage all the parts out of yours or either sell your computer outright. i personally think you should just save your money and pay $300 for said parts and the extra money can go to new games.
