SSD Not Booting Properly

I just got a new SSD and installed Windows 7 on it (Prior to this, I have used an HDD as my OS drive.).

First time it booted just fine.

Second time (with the old HDD also in place), I got
"BOOTMGR is compressed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart".
This also happens when I select to boot from the HDD.

So I removed the HDD, and now I get:
"Reboot and select proper boot device".

I made sure I was running in AHCI; it was that by default. I installed Windows twice, and the SSD always booted successfully the first time. I really don't know how to resolve this, so I would greatly appreciate some help.

SSD: Transcend 256GB
MOBO: Asrock Extreme9 (X79)

Edit: What I want is to use the SSD as my OS and software drive, and the HDD for storage.

Did you install Win7 while the HDD was still connected? If so, it is possible (if you didn't make any changes in BIOS) that the boot sector is still on the HDD. Try another clean install of Win7 with the data cable disconnected from the HDD. And be sure the SSD is selected as the boot drive in BIOS.
