Backwards PCiE slot?

so i ordered a motherboard and it works good but there is a backwards pcie x16 slot. Anyone know what it can be used for?

what motherboard did you get? Only time i see something like that are on server motherboards because they are used for internal raid cards.

PCI slots are closer to PCIe x4 in length and usually taller plus the key is towards the back of the slot.

getochkn is right its a PCI slot then. its used for older NIC cards some SATA controllers etc. its been replaced by PCI-e but there are still plenty of expansion cards for it
