Need some advice, first time trying to build my own pc for animation/illustration/gaming

Budget Range: Don't want to spend too much more than $1,500 but I'm willing to go up to $2,000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Digital Illustration, 3D animation, Gaming

Parts Preferences: No real part preference

Overclocking: No plan to immediately, don't know much about it.

SLI or Crossfire: In the future yes.

Your Monitor Resolution: Not sure what I need, but open to suggestions.

Additional Comments: I'll be using programs like Photoshop, Autodesk Maya, Blender ect. On the flip side i'll be playing a lot of games mostly mmos like Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn, Elder Scrolls Online and other games like BF4 Titanfall...I would love to play these at max settings.

psu for possible sli, board/cpu for overclock and x8x8 sli. would be cheaper if OC and SLI were not options

I'm trying to build something similar but with only light gaming capability (i.e., Warcraft or below). I'm looking at a Xeon E3-1230V2, which loses OC ability and integrated graphics but is a little cheaper. A graphics hobbystation, if you will. If I was going for gaming capability, I'd probably pick a 3770K too.

I'd think about the size of your power supply. It looks, based on the power calculations at PC Part Picker, like it's about 100W bigger than you need for a single graphics card, but just a little bit short of what you'd need to run two. If you're sure you're going to SLI, maybe you just want to get a bigger PSU to start?

btw, a random comment led me to start looking at used systems like the HP Z600 workstation. It's older equipment, but it seems like it would be a real nice render box. Depending on the CPUs, you could get either 16 or 24 threads for the price you and I are looking to pay for a new system. It would probably even be a solid gamer with the right graphics card.

I might buy one anyway, and then report back to the class on how well it works out...

PCpartpicker estimated wattage= 450w for that system. That's 150 for cpu+system, 300 for gpu. Even OC @4.5GHz is going to raise cpu+system to @ 200w, +300w, +300w = 800w for OC + SLI. Seasonic is notorious? for their accuracy. When they claim a psu is 850w, is pretty accurate, in this case, 840w.
So, with the computer and everything in it OC+SLI at full 100% load, its still @40w over. Full load never happens. The SS850-am is enuff.
