I recently bought a new computer and built it myself. It's an AMD Athalon II Processor with an Asus M5A 78L-M LX3 Series motherboard and 4GB of RAM. The box said 'Plug and Play' so I built the computer and tried to boot Windows 7 through a USB. Took me 5 hours and I tried 4 different Windows 7s before it finally manged to boot up properly without crashing or blue-screening. However, this version of Windows eventually stopped working and only booted in Safe Mode. And even then it wouldn't open any programs, wouldn't connect to the internet (dispite installing all the necessary drivers) and Windows Explorer kept crashing. So I dug out my old XP disk and installed that. It works and I can now connect to the internet but there are Registry Issues. My main concern is that I can't open any downloads because I am missing the KERNEL32.dll file. I downloaded the dll on my laptop and transfered it to my computer but none of my programs can open the file. So I downloaded a dll opener on my laptop and transfered it to my computer but I can't open it because I'm missing the KERNEL32.dll. What I want to be able to do, is fix the regestry and be able to install Windows 7. Please help!

to install xp you will have to do a clean install where winxp install disk will wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of windows.this will repair your registry at the same time.however, with xp,you may find it hard to find drivers for some of your hardware.or it might just go as smooth as silk.i recommend installing windows7 but it doesnt sound like you have a legitimate copy and if that is so thats where half your trouble is coming from.xp 32bit wont see all your ram and this will impact performance, especially if you add more ram.dont even think about running xp64bit as it was uber hard to find drivers for anything and was buggy as hell.i would bite the bullet and get a legit copy of win7.if your copy is indeed legit.try reinstalling (clean install).where are you getting your windows 7 isos?these are the ones you want.you will still need a valid key.

Hi, thanks for replying so fast! My windows XP is a legitimate copy but my Windows 7 isn't. When I installed XP it ran smoothly but it was missing some major drivers and told me that there were registry errors. I'll get my hands on a legitimate copy of Win7 and try and boot that. Will this fix all my driver issues? And it just threw me as I've been using this Win7 on my memory stick for a while and I've not had problems with it before. Very confusing.
