Im not much of a gamer, but I have 3 24" monitors, and occasionally play games on them (racing mostly, some FPS). Two of them are fine, but the third needs to be replaced. I was thinking that I could get a 21:9 monitor rather than a third 16:9, I dont know if this would work in surround. I believe people have used 2560x1600 monitors with 1600x900's on the sides, I could be wrong though. Another question; which ultra wide monitor do you think is the best?

Thanks

AMD catalyst 14.6 added mixed resolution support so now it should work. It's still early so you won't find a lot on it, but I myself am comfortable enough that I ordered a 29" ultrawide and another 23" 1080p for a 6400x1080 setup. Only concern is now you have to push an obscene 6.9 mil pixels. That's about 1.3 mil shy of 4k so prepare to spend some dough on video cards. Not everyone will agree to do what I did, but I ordered a couple used sapphire R9 290X's and plan...
To my knowledge it wouldnt work, both AMD Eyefinity and Nvidia Surround require all displays to be the same resolution to run, and I think with Surround you need basically the same monitor for it to work at all.
Havent looked into 21:9 monitors much, cant really say.

Got a great deal, think I paid 580 for the both of them, $399 for the LG 29UM95 and $260 for a pair of Acer h236hlbid monitors for the sides. If anyone is interested I'll do a YouTube video and some pics when the last couple of boxes show up.
