Running an old Emachine W3623 P4 512MB DDR. Just Doubled my VR from 1G to 2G. Caught wind of a RAM Disk to increase speed. Not sure if adding a RDisk is a waste of time without actually having the physical memory to begin with. I can only increase up to 2G max physical memory on this machine. Hard drive shows 140G with an additional 2T via USB. Lately been running slow as hell. Ran every utility I could find. Helped some but still slow enough to be distracted while waiting.

Yes. I misspoke with 'part of the OS'.
Currently, I'm playing with a 4GB ramdisk as a scratch space for Lightroom.

You don't have enough actual RAM for a viable RAMDisk.

23 minutes from last time I posted. All I did was open Gmail, open Tom's Confirmation Email (which opened another tab), then back to this thread. Ive even delayed some task manager operations running in the background (ones that I know what they do. Mostly auto updates and Hourly/Daily updates). Just so crap isnt running in the background. Adblocker & Virus are the only processes running as far as I can tell. I dont mess with what I don't know about. It just seems like My PC is doing a lot more "chewing" than doing. On idle... nothing.. couple bites here and there. Soon as I hit anything the waiting begins. 2G RAM should be here soon that'll help tons. Have any other suggestions short of a new system? Trying to squeeeeeze every drop out of this one before i go hunting for a new one. Thats when the fun begins! I know as soon as I get a new one... something bigger better faster awaits tomorrow. Thanx for the help in advance and just as I thought... not enough actual RAM to be of any use. Doubling my VR helped. I'll try another G or 2 and see what happens. Thanx again...
