System: Windows 8.0 x64, 5 GB RAM, (not overlooked), only the integrated video card. PC specs here. Mobo specs here.

How it happened:
Old system, played for a few hours one of those newish games, screen starts pixelation. It stops, then after 5 min does it again, for the last time and shuts down.

Now
At the beginning it won't reboot in windows. Repair did not work. Re-installed Windows 8 x64. Quickly checked the temp of everything, it seemed ok. PC Worked twice then suddenly no display. Since then 90% of the time no display. Rarely, it will display BIOS and be stuck/ or pixelation when starting windows or the blue screen. Fan and power supply seems working.
When I plug in the power cord, PC starts automatically, though no display.

Steps I did
- monitor - working
- memory test - passed
- harddisk smart check - passed
- removed ram/changed spots - no improvement
- reset CMOS battery out - no improvement
- reset CMOS jumper - no improvement
- removed everything from motherboard while inside case - no display
- motherboard on the floor only power source and monitor connected - no improvement
(im able to turn it on shorting the two pins).
- changed power source cables - no improvement.

Note: I don't have another power supply, or video card. Sometimes it does beep if there is no ram, sometimes it doesn't.

What's the problem?
1) Power supply
2) Video Card
3) Motherboard
4) CPU (needs more paste for sure)
5) Heating of the integrated video card processor? (it seems a bit hot, nothing to get excited about imo)
6) bad capacitors? if yes how do I found out which ones
7) Anything else, please specify...

Thank you all for your time.

No bad capacitors or leaking apparently.

Old PSU: Bestec 250 watts.
New PSU: Coolmax Model I-400 400 watts.

Tried another HD, no improvement.

One thing I don't get how come once in a while (1 out of 20 tries) the display would work but give me the windows' blue screen? What does that tell us?

Computer had initially only the onboard video card.

Great News:
Removed again the CMOS battery. and pc won't display anything. Set jumper on clear CMOS, computer starts everytime. I've set the jumper back, it works until a point. As soon as I put the battery back, no display. If the jumper is not set on clear CMOS after I remove the battery, it won't show a thing.

So it loads the default bios, recognizes everything, CPU, RAM, Harddisk. Loads windows 8, attempts to repair and after restart doesn't display anything anymore. If I chose to start windows 8 without repair, gives me the blue screen error: critical process died (no code). Swapped with working HDD with windows 7, gets stuck at loading windows 7 screen. There is also no display after restart, even after manual restart (ctrl + shift + del). There is no difference if I use the on board video card or the brand new pci e within the above mentioned context.

Is there a problem with the BIOS chip? Since a computer can run without the CMOS battery, I assume it's not the battery, right?

It still doesn't load windows. Also I cannot make changes to bios first it won't remember for lack of CMOS, however, it also needs restart after saving the bios settings, so after restart pc shows no display.

it should be working with the battery since this is the one that kepp power for the eprom for the bios test her with avoltmeter if you could but dont leave her out off the system for to long or you will loose all the bios settings and could brick the motherboard eprom so she will be useless .

Negative, Tried again, not working with the battery. Even after I remove the battery, it won't display, unless I set the jumper on clear CMOS. Wierd. Still no windows here.

i seen up that you have 5 gig of ram and motherboard support up to 4 gig also did you test the cmos battery with a voltmeter if she have the voltage that is mark on her , the other thing that sytem came out with vista 32 bits did you check on hp before updating o win 8 64 bits os if all the parts meet the compatibility test that could be a big part of the issue .

Tested system with another cmos battery, no change. The system supports up to 4 gig under 32 bits, but works up to 8 under x64.
For over a year, windows 8 x64 with 5 gigs of ram and no problem. 5 Gigs of ram under win7 too, no problem.

It's either the motherboard or the cpu lol. Probably the motherboard since the cpu won't go down so easy. Any other suggestions before I throw the whole thing out the window?

And motherboard it was. Thank you so much for all your help.

Bought ASRock - N68C-GS FX, the only one available that would fit my cpu, but now the fans of the pc are very noisy. I'm thinking it's because the PSU is only 250 watts. I was not able to find what is the recommendation of minimum watts for this motherboard.
