I'll get right to the point. I got Astro A40s (2013ED) I want to use it with my gaming computer and get 5.1 or 7.1 sound, BUT I don't have an Optical in on my PC. Right now I can only connect them through the USB but i'm not getting the best sound, either that or connect them straight up without the mix amp, which honestly sounds better than through the mix amp with the USB. What the hell can I do? buy an external sound card? is that possible to do? one that has opt in?

Other than buying a sound card with optical in, seems like your only option for full functionality is through USB. Something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102017 would work.
