Hi everyone, I managed to remove everything from my old case but I can't seem to get the piece that covers the motherboard ports from the outside. I am using a dell xps 8500 case. If I can't take it out, is there a place to buy a similar one? Or even just leave it open? Thanks

Solution
In most instances the I/O Shield is removable. Your shield is removable, you may need to apply some pressure to it. Apply pressure evenly from the outside, it pops out toward the inside, to get it off the Dell case.

I managed to get it off, but now my other issue is that the motherboard is not screwing in properly. The case I am using is the CM 912 HAF and the golden bolt things suck. I am afraid that I might have damaged the motherboard. I am trying my best to be careful. Anyways I am getting pretty tired so I think I'm going to sleep and finish it tomorrow. Btw if anyone can help me find a pic of where all the cords should be plugged into on the motherboard, that would be MUCH appreciated. If not I will try to find one myself, but you guys know better than me haha :) thanks guys.

Check that your standoffs (the golden bolts) are in the correct location(s) for the motherboard. Sometimes it takes quite a bit of lateral pressure to get the screws lined up correctly, that's okay (although a pain).
Although the pin info is usually printed (near microscopically) on the motherboard, a picture of your motherboard's front panel header can help us figure how it's laid out and what goes where (or any other connectors you're unsure of.
