Sharp frame drops during melee fighting scenes in Bioshock Infinite

Without vsync, my minimum Bioshock Infinite framerate is around 70. With vsync, there is stutter, especially when I am moving to new areas. Usually it drops to 54 to 56, then gets back to 60fps in a second.

However, in melee fighting scenes, the framerate drops very sharply, especially when there is lots of blood spraying on the screen.

I am playing on Medium preset, with AO turned to low.

Any idea how I can further improve the framerate? What setting should I tinker with? Have an EVGA GTX 750 SC.

Thanks!

Actually, I just read about adaptive vsync. I think that would solve my problem the best.

In any case, what mechanism can I use to manually limit my framerate to 60 (but not on vsync). Can't seem to find this in the Nvidia control panel.
