i am using dell inspiron 1121.two days back my laptop had a severe problem.after i switched on the power there was a black screen(absolutely black even without cursor and without dell logo),followed by irregular lines and dots all over the screen.i called my customer service and he told me that the onboard graphics chip(ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225) had an issue and i need to replace the entire mother board.i logged in using safe mode and i shut it down and had a normal login. i found several event logs(ACEEventlog) nearly 100 each time i logged in.i uninstalled ati catalyst centre(formerly called) completely and reinstalled amd catalyst.and i had the same problem again in event logs and i had error boxes at start up like (atibtmon.exe runtime error and c:WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe).i completely uninstalled amd catalyst centre and its left overs(left overs using driver sweeper).and now running the laptop with default windows graphic driver.

1) can i run my laptop without amd catalyst centre
2) do motherboard fails if laptop runs on default windows graphic driver
3) can i get motherboard repaired if onboard graphics fails without replacing it with a new one.

please guide me in this issue

thank you,
dilip.

1) I will always recommend that you have the AMD CCC
2) No, But you have to install graphics drivers for your card to work properly
3) It can be repaired if you have a separate card, like your HD 4225, it can, But graphics card can be impossible to fix, so it may be replaced instead but only the card itself. If your graphics card is failing, they'll fix the card and not the motherboard if that's what you mean.

Dear Sir,
thank u very much for your reply
1) could you please suggest me if the error is with the amd catalyst driver or with the hardware of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 basing on the information provided in the question.
2) will my laptop work even in the low resolution if my onboard graphic card(ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225) gets damaged/failed.

Regards,
dilip.

1) sound to me like hardware, not driver.

2) nope if it is hardware, it will have issues on all resolutions.
