Unhappy with my fps, what's holding me back? What should I spend on next?

I had to slowbuild my system so bought a zoostorm unit that had an

A8-5600K processor
8gb Ram (in 1 stick)

I've upgraded with a
Sapphire 7870 GHZ 2GB
(and power supply)

When i researched for the graphics card most people suggested I would still be maybe getting high on next gen games with the graphics card? But I'm only scraping over 30fps on normal for Thief (interestingly whether I try 1080p or 900p there is really no difference)

Did I read and end up with wishful thinking?

Is it because Thief is new and will be better with the mantle patch?

Or is there something I need to upgrade - unfortunately my CPU being an APU I think my mobo only fits in AXX series processors so a CPU upgrade would be costly!

Would switching to dual channel and faster ram help? Or is this not really neccessary?

Are any of the AXX proccessors a reasonable and worthwhile upgrade as they don't seem to be based on stats?

Should I suck it up and play games on normal for the time being?

I know there's no point in upgrading the graphics card as it's already pretty much at a bottleneck with my processor.

Note: I haven't overclocked annnything - my PSU was a gold certified 450w which I know was minimum for my system based on a psu calculator and so didn't want to push any luck there - should I be able to?

oh i didnt even see that sorry yea try to get another stick of ram make sure it is same as the stick you already have. apus thrive on duel channel memory no it isnt the best cpu but with the igpu and dual channel setup you will be able to get better fps

ah thanks for that link. Guess it's save for a mobo and new processor then. I'll try looking at the bios again but thought it'd already been disabled so I'll have a look. I didn't think it would use dual graphics though as my 7870 is too high for the APU

it doesnt try to use it as dual graphics it just disables the igpu core giving the other cpu core better performance
