I'm wondering if the gtx 770 will be able to use the extra 2 gb vram (or at least 1 gb) vram withouth experiencing major performance drops because of its 256 bit bus, also wich card has better performance? (drivers, fps, sli/xfire experience, amd's mantle advantage/performance gain)

Solution
Get the R9-280X unless you want one of the NVidia benefits.

NVidia:
- PhysX
- Shadowplay
- G-Sync (requires G-Sync monitor which is actually awesome)

AMD:
- Mantle (I was excited but not so much anymore. I weight the ability to use G-Sync higher)

ASUS GTX770 summary benchmark:

COST of cards:
$330 vs $340 (770 is $10 more): http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9280xdc2t3gd5

Conclusion:
The GTX770 (Asus not stock) is slightly more money and performs very slightly faster on average. The AMD card however has 3GB of VRAM which can't really be...

Well for me the toss up was between the 280x or the 770 and at the time (month ago) the 280x was cheaper so I went with that. The only game I cant max out at 60 is crysis 3 in which I play at 40-50. I'm happy with it.

*There's no wrong answer here. Both great cards. I say look at the NVidia specific features and if those don't matter then get the Asus R9-280X.

Well I don't live int he US but the prices in the Netherlands (where I live are pretty much the same). Have researched a bit more and saw that the 7970 is actually 50 euro's cheaper (70$) than the r9 280x, wich of the 2 is better? also the only thing nvidia will give me over amd is the PhysX but then again amd will give me mantle for a little bit of performance boost and probably freesync wich may be quite good. Although I am a total nvidia fanboy I think I will have to pass for my own good :p.

Which 7970 is it? Normal or "GHZ edition"? I suspect because it's cheaper is the normal edition. It will be the slowest of all the before mentioned cards. Nearly all 7970s can hit 1GHz if you are willing to OC it however so you might want to save the euros and buy the 7970. Photonboy was more or less right though he only listed one benefit to AMD. I would also put their superior OpenCL performance in there. (Mining unless you do other things like Photoshop with it.) G-sync is nice/great but unless you have a monitor that can do it it won't help you at all. The 7970, 280x, and 770 are more or less in ascending order and all great cards. You should be pleased with whichever you buy.

Anyway will look into this card and see if its any good, if I can't find anything I geuss I will get the r9 280x although I still have the gtx 770 4gb in the back of my head because I might try sli when my system gets outdated.

Yeah, normal one. 925MHz is already really close to 1GHz so it's not that much slower then the 280X. For saving 50 euros I'd seriously consider it.

CF might not get much love but don't forget you can CF later on. Perhaps by then AMD will have good drivers for that.

After some thinking I have come to the conclusion that its kinda stupid to get a worse performing card while your still in budget concidering that the gpu is the most important part of a gaming pc so the 7970 will be out of question I think, went with the gtx 770 for future sli but found out that the 2gb version costs 250 euro's while the 4 gb version costs 290 euro's. Now the thing is I can buy a second hand r9 290 with the reference cooler for about 300-320 euro's wich isn't a whole lot more than the 4 gig 770 while it has the same quality as the gtx 780. Ofcourse if I get the r9 290 I will change the cooler in a couple of months (will also oc it a bit) and in the worst case scenerio I will just let the fan run at 100% while wearing headphones (no matter how loud it is it wont compete with my hercules :p). I also looked at the other parts of my rig and have come up with 4 options fitting my budget.

fx-8320+ second hand r9 290 (reference wich I will modifie and oc in a couple of months)
fx-8320+ gtx 770 4gb (aftermarket)
i5-4570+ r9 280x (aftermarket)
i5-4670k+ gtx 770 2gb (aftermarket)

So do anyone have any advice :p? Would also like to hear what you would do in my shoes :).
