I have put a new hard drive into my toshiba satellite and comes up with, media test failure, check cable. and select proper boot device. I have no computer knowledge and the cd part doesn't work, plus no recovery disc :/ Any info will be grateful, thanks, Darren.

"The media test failure" simply means there is no operating system installed on the new hard drive yet, so the laptop is trying to boot from the next assigned device which is the network card - - but there's no boot data there either.

You will need to order a set of Recovery Discs (Backup Media as Toshiba calls them) to put the original Windows installation on your new hard drive. The backup media includes instructions on how to use them (I know because I had to order a set last year). If you live in Europe you can order via this page: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/

They will charge you around £15 UK Sterling.

Note: if the CD drive doesn't work you will need to get it fixed or replace it with a new drive first. It's absolutely...
