First of all please reply if you have actually had experience from what im about to say.

I had purchased my gaming pc from a company that builds computers, i chose not to get any OS for it as i was running a tight budget until i could afford Windows 7 so i used the trial version for a bit. Then i bought An OEM version of windows 7 but you have to activate it through an automated phone. My problem is that i wish to reformat my omputer but i had forgotten to create a new partition therefore making it that if i refromat my pc it'll delete windows. Would i be able to call microsoft asking them to reactivate it for me when i reformat my pc? Please help me

Hi

I hope by OEM version you mean a genuine System Builder OEM Windows 7 DVD (with holograms) .

Do you have the internet at Home ?,
if you do why not activate the PC over the internet connection ?
You only do it by phone if you have no internet connection or activation problems

The Windows key has information to Identify OEM System Builder, OEM Manufacturer, upgrade or full retail product

When you do a full format & re install using System Builder OEM version on the same hardware then the activation process collects details of parts your hardware sufficient to identify your PC
these are sent to Microsoft along with the key and you get another set of characters back to complete the activation process.

If the server does...

Do I have this sequence right?
1. New PC with no OS
2. Install Windows 7, but do not activate
3. Buy Windows 7, with legal license key

With the current installation, you should be able to apply your new legal key, without reinstalling anything.

If the server does not think the motherboard etc is the same as previously used for that PC it will not activate and you have to contact them by phone and convince them it is the same PC.

If someone used your Key before you did you may also run into problems

If it indeed causes you to go through the phone robot:

You read a long string of numbers in (NOT the actual activation key). Several groups of 6 digits.
It reads you a long string back, that you enter into the relevant boxes.
It then asks, "How many computers is this installed on?"
The answer is "One"

Poof...should be activated.
