Computer restored, backup disk empty.

I restored my computer back to factory settings, first backing up files onto a disk, which I forgot to remove. The disk appears empty. Would the restore have wiped the disk? Can I do anything? The lap-top is an Advent.

The restore would not have erased a DVD. Are you sure the backup actually completed and made the backup? In other words, did you check to see if there was anything written to disk when it was complete?
Did you use the disk image operation in Win7 or something else?
