ok so i need a new hdd. on this new hdd i plan on giving it a clean installation. but i need to transfer all my files. how do i do this? after my intallation can i just simply plug back my old hdd via sata and just transfer all my file over. im not worried about any software cause i could just download them back. do i really need a usb to sata cable?

Solution
In theory, yes you can; as long as you have two SATA ports open, you can install to a new HDD, and then copy any documents or files over from the old one. If you have them both installed at the same time, make sure to install to the right drive (and to not format the one you want to recover files from :)), and as you already seem to know, you'll have to reinstall any programs, as they can't just be copied/pasted.

No reason to pay for a transfer cable, as long as you have a way to have both drives installed at the same time. I'll have both drives detected, and you can copy from one to the other just like a flash drive.

ok just to make thing clear cause ive never done this before
first i will remove old hdd completely cable and all, install new hdd. then i will begin to format new hdd. after that is done i will shut down my pc and re connect my old hdd make sure i boot up from new hdd and after i will (hopefully) just cut and paste all my file onto the new hdd? i have about 6 sata ports so i should be fine.

You should only re-connect the old hard drive cables once Windows has finished installing and setup.
