So last month i upgraded my really shitty computer a bit. i got a new mother board, CPU, a new power supply, and a bit more ram. and yes this pc is for gaming. Now i chose to upgrade the rest of my pc and not my GPU because at the time is was the best part of the computer now its the worst. so i need to know what kind of graphics card my current pc can handle. My budget is around 300-400 bucks.
My current specs are......
Mother board: Asus M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 6300 six-core
Power supply: cooler master 500w
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: nividia GTX 620

So all in all I want to get a new graphics card that is much better than the one i have now. If you could list 1 GPU that does not require me to change my power supply and 1 that does require a better power supply, along with the power supply required, i will decide from there(sorry if what i just said is confusing) that would be much appreciated. Also if you would like to leave some advice on this, that would be helpful as well.

More about : gpu

Since we don't know what your PC consists of, it will be hard to tell what would be enough and what would be overkill. One thing that is very important is the make/model of your PSU.

Get a GTX 760, or if you want an AMD card, get a RADEON HD 7950.

If that CM PSU is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
...it only has a pair of 18A +12V rails and a single 6 pin aux connector. The GTX 760 and HD 7950 might be a bit much for it over time. Maybe look into an R9-270 or GTX 750 ti.

Oh. If you are upgrading your PSU to a good quality 760W unit, you can run just about any card you can afford then. The GTX 760 would be fine with a bigger PSU.

Edit: I misread your statement of "i was wanting to get the 760 what power supply" as meaning you were planning on getting a 760 WATT power supply. Obviously you meant "i was wanting to get the GTX 760. WHAT power supply...". (see what a difference punctuation can make ;-)

So, the card you get will be determined by the PSU you get. Nvidia recommends a 500W minimum for the 170W GTX 760. But you need a better +12V rating that your CM has for dependable service over time. Hope I didn't confuse you.
