All right so I will take windows 8 off of my laptop. I was going to try to put windows vista on it, but decided not to because it's a bad os. I have decided to get windows xp instead despite it no longer being supported, I know it's a really good operating system. Vista is bad, and too expensive, and 7 s way too expensive. I'm only 15. Windows xp is the only thing I can afford.

Why do you want to take Windows 8 off of your system? A lot of people dislike it, but there are many easy and cheap/free tweaks that can make it looks almost exactly like Windows 7 again, and in games, there actually is a small but tangible performance increase. If I were you, I would stick with Windows 8. It's a very, very bad idea to downgrade to XP, it is outdated and not really supported any more, and doesn't work with new game releases anymore.

this isnt a good idea at all.its likely you will not be able to find chipset and other drivers for xp.if you dont like win8 download and install a program called windows classic shell.it will give you back your start button/menu.basically it makes win8 look like win7.the truth of the matter is that win8 is the faster os here. its your choice in the end but its likely that you are not going to be happy with the outcome.here is the link to download classic shell.its a free program.

If you honestly can't afford Windows 7 then wait with Windows 8 until you can, save a few more months pocket money or whatnot, but XP is a real dead end route and most people forget how much better 7 is in almost every single way.

Well, I HATE windows 8! and 8.1 which I have. I was on a forum somewhere else, and one person stated "Windows 8 makes me want to cry and scream, and smash my $900 laptop with a hammer" And believe me I totally get that. If I want 8 gone, I really have no other choice. I really like 7, but boy they can be from anywhere of $150, to $225. Vista was bad, and still they run about $130. XP is maybe $110, which I can afford, and will do better at running the older sims 2 than 8 or 8.1.

Where do you live? Not to sound like a creepy stalker or anything, but here in the US Windows 7 is easily found for $80...

Let me put it this way David, you're 15, you can't have everything in the world or have everything your own way. Either stick with 8.1 (I know it's definitely a Marmite OS) and learn the differences/customise it to your liking or save up longer for Windows 7.

Windows XP should have been pulled out of support years ago and really can't be counted as a serious solution. Although it looks similar to 7 the underlying code is vastly different and outdated, making it less secure and harder to get modern day program compatibility.
Here's a good analogy, you were around 4 or 5 when XP was released, can you imagine using the same computer that was purchased back then? think how outdated it would be!

All right, I'm getting 7. But i'm not going to be able to play sims 2 for awhile because it would be pointless to install all of the ep's, only to find out after 7 I have to reinstall all of them, and transfer my data. That's too much hassle. How will I get the money, no idea. My parents do pay me $5 an hour, if I want to do stuff for them, and I have a birthday coming up in June...

Yep, it's just another lesson of life. I'd just be grateful that you have that computer. My computer (given to me by my parents) when I was your age wasn't up to modern gaming but I persevered as I had no choice at that age. I'd like a new car now as my current one is getting a bit old but I can't afford to buy a replacement now, I just have to save up and bide my time.

But, before I got the laptop, I told my parents I did not want one with windows 8, and I wanted one with 7. They had a cousin who's a computer expert look for us, and picked out the laptop. Indeed it has a grate graphics card, for games, but I said no 8. No look at the mess they made. A mess I have to clean up!

Well, I understand it's frustrating in that respect but then nothing is perfect. Think of it this way, you have a modern, decent laptop that will work just fine. Look at the bigger picture of what kind of computer you could have got,or even the fact that you may have never got a computer at all!

I think saving up for 7 will be good, because you're going to get something you like in the end, be-it Windows 7 or you will customise and accommodate Windows 8 so that you do like it. Hey, I thought Windows 8 was horrific when it first came out, but I got used to some changes and modified it to my liking, now I can't bear going back to a seemingly basic Windows 7.

Just some food for thought.

Ok, then it's figured out. I actually, have downloaded start menu 8, put a windows 7 background, and have aero glass on both computers, but that just doesn't cut it for me. I will save then.

how long have you used windows 8? I ask that of everyone I see complaining about windows 8. My second question is why.

At first i hated it with a bloody passion. after about a month of using a new laptop i got used to it. it isn't that different from windows 7 unless you spend most of your time in metro. I haven't even downloaded any of the start menu fixers and what not that have come out, haven't felt the need to. Fact is it is the fastest running and most stable windows version. I haven't seen a single blue screen on that laptop and I think only one program crashed. I'd still prefer windows 7 over 8 however.

If it is program compatibility that is your major problem with it, well not to sound harsh but you'll just have to deal with it. Old programs and games were built for the standards of their time. You can't expect them to run on all future OS versions. It is the nature of the beast.

I know, that;s why i'm getting 7. sims just isn't compatible with 8 or 8.1, and probably 8.2, 9, etc.
