Hi guys,
I just did my pc build, and it worked like a charm - except for one thing: the sound on the system doesn't work. Do you have any ideas as to why that is?

A couple questions first just to clarify:
I assume that you have installed the Operating System? And what OS is it?
Did you install the audio drivers from the mobo cd/dvd?
Reply and I will help you if I can
Be back on my PC in about 30 minutes.

I have installed Windows 7 and i haven't installed the motherboard drivers. I guess i should do that? :) And by the way, really sorry about the delay. I'll install the drivers and see how that works

Alright, I just installed the drivers, and only the right front speaker, subwoofer, and right rear speaker work for my 5.1 headphones. Any ideas why the center and left front and rear speakers don't work?

Yep, couple ideas. Don't know what mobo you are using, but will assume you are using onboard sound. Please post you mother board make and exact model.
Sounds like you don't have the connections to the PC hooked up correctly. Check all your wiring and make certain they are plugged in properly. Consult your mobo manual and your speakers manual to see where everything needs to go.
And make sure the plugs are inserted all the way into their respective audio jacks.
THEN
Start here; Contorl Panel>Sound.
When that window opens (it should open with the 'Playback' section displayed) find the topic "Speakers", it should be default and have a checkmark on it.
Right click on 'Speakers' , click on Configure Speakers. It is probably set on 'Stereo' which is what Windows uses for headphones. Change the setting to 5.1 and test.
NEXT
Back to the Control Panel. If you have installed the audio drivers, then there should be specific audio manager. Most mobo's have on-board Realtek sound so in the Cont.Pan. there should be a selection for "Realtek HD Audio Manager."
OPen that and you can further tweak your sound.

Let us know how it goes. I will off-and-on the forum all day. (It is 3/3 at 11a.m. Pacific Time - for your reference).

Ya, I'm using the onboard sound.
Alright, I did everything I could, but the sound still won't work on the front-L and rear-L. (And the problem isn't with the headphones, because sound comes from the left cup for center.) Any more ideas? If you don't it's cool, it could just be a problem with the setup or wires, as you said.

So what brand and model of headphones? Do they connect with just one mini-plug or are they USB? Did they come with software specific to the head phones? (An install or driver disc).
Please reply and maybe we can think of something. Sounds like the headphones might be damaged/defective, except that you have gone from no sound to some sound.
Did you check the Realtek sound manager and Sound in the Control Panel?

Sorry, I had a ton of homework and like ten hours of sports the last couple days.
my headphones are turtle beach's, and the model is ear force z6. I'll check if they came with software later but now i have more homework and tryouts lol. everything in both the realtek sound manager and control panel sound are set to the headphones.

Roger all that. Studies and school first. We'll sort this out when you have a little more time.
