Hi all,

Recently built my PC and used the ram from my old PC in it.

Its currently sitting on 16gb (4x4gb) of DDR3 1600mhz Kingston ram.

Is there going to be a noticeable difference between 8gb and 16gb in the gaming side of things?

Is it a viable solution to remove just one of the ram sticks leaving it with 12gb. I'm not sure how this effects the coloured slots on mobo etc.

Hope this makes sense,

Regards

8 should suffice for gaming, if keeping other apps open while gaming, or VMs running in the background etc then 16 might help, the 16 will primarily show itself in non-gaming scenarios where you are multi-tasking or using memory centric apps or large data sets

Hi there,

Thanks for all your replies.

Just a question update,

If i was to remove 1 of the 4 ram sticks (leaving 3 sticks with a total of 12gb ram)

Would there be any adverse effects? Or am I better to remove two sticks (leaving 2 sticks with a total of 8gb ram)?

I will need to take some ram out to put into a HTPC I am building with spare parts and I'm wondering which is the best solution, I understand the basics, but dual channel etc escapes me.

Regards
