Only DVI Supports 144 Hz Monitors?

I have an Asus VG248QE Monitor that supports 144 hz. I've been using nothing but dvi, but my friend is doubting me. He says there are certain hdmi's out there that support up to 144 hz? Also how would I go about setting up 2 monitors (same monitors). To fully display 144 hz on both monitors? Thank you in advance.

Oh well, he said monsters made some hdmi cables that went up to that much. Not gonna argue with him anymore, and let him do what he wants.

The problem is not the cable, but the HDMI port on the monitor.
