For gaming with dedicated graphics card and editing and rendering 720p to 1080p videos and possibly 4K in the future with Sony Vegas Pro 12 and or Adobe Premiere. Also might get some AfterEffects in.

Please keep in mind that I don't mind a few frames lost on the FX 8350 as I am planning to overclock anyway.

Thanks in advanced.

Solution
The Xeon e3-1230v3 offers 95% of the performance of the 3770k at stock speeds. They're the same chip, the 3770k is just clocked 100/200mhz higher. The Xeon is a way better value.

This is quite the conundrum, as the FX is better for the rendering stuff, but the i5 would outperform in gaming, but then again, the graphics card is usually the most important aspect of pc gaming, so because you're rendering and 4k, I'd go with the FX

No, i5 will render faster, pretty sure.

It is kind of hard to compare these twp CPU's based on the benchmarks. In the synthetic benchmarks the i5 4670k does a lot better in the single threaded application and does better in most multithreaded applications. I have a i5 3570k which renders videos quite quickly. 1080p exports at about real time using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. I have read though that the FX 8320 and 8350 do quite well for rendering not as fast as the i7 3770k but good performance. Aslo The FX 8320 overclocks to about the same as the FX 8350 but is 40-50 bucks cheaper. It really comes down to personal preference with these two as there are so many that can't decide between the 2. I would opt for the i5 because of the Much faster IPC.

In my opinion, usually there is no "free lunch". The CPUs are priced

Xeon e3-1230v3 > i5-4670k > i5-4670 > FX 8350 > FX 8320, specially considering the costs of motherboards involved.

And they perform like they're priced. Yeah, you may be able to save 20-30 here and there. FX 8320 may be an exception as you can overclock it to FX 8350 speeds.

Sage advice here. You just aren't going to spend less and get equal or better performance.

Thanks, I have seen that video in the past but all it did was confuse me more, Logan needed to put them together in a graph or table. That would help a lot.

If I did go for a Xeon 1230V3 how would that compare to a 3770k because I might be able to get RAM from another system which would give my budget room for a more pricey CPU and Mobo combo. Considering that the Xeon is AUD$299 here in Australia while a 4670k costs AUD$277 so it's not too much of an issue to go from the 4670k to a Xeon 1230V3. But a 3770k costs AUD$385 and a 4770k costs AUD$399. Welcome to the "Australian Tech Tax"

So if I'm not going to be overclocking, what would be a very quiet and good quality air CPU cooler. I was looking at the Noctua coolers but I don't know which one has enough performance to cool the Xeon E3-1230V3 effectively. So that I'm not spending more money than I have to on a cooler.

Thankyou CTurbo and everyone else that has pitched in, it has really helped. Again thankyou.
