Computer not recognizing external HD

Hi all, I'm trying to back up some work data onto my personal external HD. I usually use the HD with my personal Macbook Air, running OS X. I am trying to connect it to my work computer, a Dell laptop running Windows XP. When I plug the drive into any of the USB ports, the light on the drive turns on and the drive starts whirring. I can also view the drive under "Safely Remove Hardware" as "USB Mass Storage Device". However, it is not appearing on My Computer or Disk Management. Please help?

Also saw that you said its not showing in disk management in windows? I over looked that part. If its not seeing it in windows at all then something else might be up as well. If it just a file system issue it should still show it there. Also how big is the external drive? and also if you plug it back into the mac you can find out what file system it is. Not 100% how to find out. I would think just go to the properties for the drive and it will tell you what file system it is.
