RAM Memory shortage

I have a laptop HP Probook 450 (core i3 2.40 GHz, 500 GB HDD, 4 GB RAM, win 7), but the problem is when I check the properties of My Computer, it shows 2.85 GB Memory are usuable. anybody could help me plz?

32 bit OS limits the RAm to maximum 3.4GB. In your case check the resource utilization portion in Taskbar area. Windows use certain portion of the RAM, apps use certain portion of the RAM, Also if using built-in GPU then portion of RAM is dedicated for that GPU as well.

This seems to be the case with you.

Anyhow, run memtest86 as well.

@EasyLover, but I have checked another laptop which is same config, except win 7 64 bit, memory shows 3.84 ususable. is that differ becoz of 32 bit and 64 bit?

Yes, because certain portion of them RAM is reserved for the windows and because it is 64 bit that is why
