Hi, my Samsung 226BW monitor recently had the common capacitor bursting problem that seems to happen with its model.

If the residue spilled on the circuit board, is it still worth it to desolder the older capacitors off and get new ones on there if I've never soldered before?

My friend is a tinkerer and fixes mobos and parts all the time by doing that... He doesn't even know much about PC parts, just general electronic circuit boards from a life time of ripping things open and tinkering with them.

Anyways, according to him, you just match up the blown one to a non blown one from anything as long as it has the same mark on it. Solder it on, which isn't hard... And voila...

So hell, what have you got to lose? Get tinkering!
