I just got my alienware X51 R2 for Christmas and I just bought battlefield and I had seen others run it Smootly as hell on the same exact computer. And I try to play ultra. It's unplayable. I play it on low and it just looks horrible. My graphic card is GeForce GTX 645 and it's the base model. No changes to it at all.

Be very careful about pre-builts. Almost all of them try to exploit your lack of knowledge about computers. They grab your attention with modern CPUs and lots of RAM, but feature horrible GPUs and useless PSUs at the same time. They are also almost always heavily overpriced, especially the ones from Dell/Alienware, and have horrible upgrade-ability.

The GTX 645 is not a gaming GPU. It is more of a multimedia card. You'll need a new GPU to game properly. But a good GPU requires space (the case seems really small from what I could gather) and a powerful PSU. You need to find out how much space you have for a GPU, especially length, and what kind of PSU you have in there. If you can find out the wattage and the amperes on the +12V rail.

You can put together a rig that lets you play Battlefield 4 on ultra for $600-$700 and for $1000 you can already get a great future-proof PC that lets you max out any game on the current market. Next time think about going custom-built. It really isn't that hard.
