Hey guys,

Im building a new gaming pc, it's my first build and i need to pick a gpu that's around $500.

I need it to be overclock/SLI/crossfire capable.
Dont want it going over 90 degrees.
3gb or more VRAM.
It needs to last me at least 2-3 years before upgrade/SLI/crossfire.
I will play games like crysis 3, watch dogs(after release), bf4 and other epic-graphicss games.
I'm expecting around 50-60 fps on average since spending $500 on a gpu is a lot.
I will use a single 1080p monitor when I'm gaming.
I'm not planning on 3d or anything like that.
I will stream so it shouldn't lose too much fps while doing so.
I will play all games MAXED OUT with 2 or 4xMSAA.

Here's my build if it helps:

I can change the parts around a bit if needed.

Thnx.

I checked benchmarks and the 290 seems to perform bettet than the 780. And mantle is coming soo......
If i add r9 290 to my build, its $30 over the budget.
If i add a 780, its $20 below my budget i think(which is good).

well, the 780 as a higher mem. clock than the r9. but the r9 has a higher core/boost clock than the 780. both are fine cards and neither will be any better than the other. if you dint mind spending extra cash, go for the 290. if not, the the 780 would be a good second choice.

Asus GTX780 Direct cu ii oc

This one? A bit more then $500 but i think it's the best pick.
You will need to get it fast though at that price. It looks to be on sale, normally its about $680.
Don't know how long it will be at that price.

I wouldn't buy an r9 290 right now, its still overpriced due to the bitcoin mania. Getting a gtx 780 is more budget friendly and I doubt you'd notice a difference.

Yea, I'm getting it in maybe a 3 weeks-4weeks time, and considering that the new consoles are amd optimized, the pc versions might be too. Many epic games like thief, bf4, metro last light and maybe watch dogs and other games are amd-optimized.

Not really, even the 770 struggles to maintain 40 fps in metro last light at single monitor one 1080p

True, but just saying that the 290 performs a bit better, I was just thinking that it would be worth the money more than the 780. Is it true?

Clicky

The DCUII managed to reach the highest clocks of any of the voltage limited 780s they tested and added 20% performance.

Ok so if that makes it perform more than the 290......i guess its a good deal for 500 bucks.

It probably is but i just noticed the EVGA one is also really cheap. Oh well...

I have the Asus one and i love it. Guess it doesn't really matter what brand you pick.

You might take a look at the super locked 4gb gtx 770. I'd reccomend the gigabyte wind force or the evga ftw. As far as bang for buck, the card puts out a lot of performance. But like you said, mantle is coming soon and even though it's a little more pricey the r9 280x would also be a fantastic option.

Yes, thnx for your suggestion, but considering i have a $500 budget for the gpu, i think i can take the 770 over the 780, since it's only around $100 more and it offers all the perfect needs; 384-bit memory bus, 3 gb VRAM (perfect for a few years to come), superior cooling and great price.

I honestly would've got the 770 wind force edition if i didn't force myself to raise my budget.
