Are you limited to a certain amount of ram based on your processor?

I was looking at building a system and noticed under the processor description that it said "max memory-32gb". I was looking into getting 64gb of ram. The processor is the i7-4960x. Will this work?
Also, it mentions that the ram must run at 1600mHz. If i get 2133mHz ram, will there be a conflict?

Solution
You should be able to run 2133MHz, without any major problems.

Yes and no; you are limeted by the chipset you are using. so when you go for a z87 you are indeed limited to 32 GB because it doesnt support quad channel RAM. if you want that (crazy) amount of RAM, you need to go with X79
and a very expensive LGA2011 CPU like you have now, but it supports it

and the memory speed wont conflict ;)

(can you tell uw why you want 64 GB? because thats 90% of the time overkill)

I am trying to build a PC that will retain its original capabilities for the longest time possible. I think the high amount of RAM is necessary for this. I agree that this is overkill for the time, but eventually I will need to utilize most of it. I have decided to go with a 32gb 2133mHz setup, and the i7-4960x extreme edition. Thank you for the very helpful replies.

that will be some crazy expensive ram, like $600 at least. this is pro level stuff with 64,96,128 becoming common in pixar level animations and graphics. but they use eec ram at like 1066cas7 and 32gb sticks. there are likely only a handful of over the shelf programs that would even be coded to use 64gb ram unless your running cad and animation and raw file photoshop and encoding and gaming all at the same time. you need a custom made program for ram levels above that and a quad xeon cpu and quad firepro/quadro setup to even handle data amounts that high with any amount of speed that would be relevant to work.
