Just to be clear, my antec 850w truepower quattro's manual defines the peripheral cable I'm referring to as the following:
"6-pin output sockets, for use with the cable sets to power your drives
and other peripherals."
I've been running my PC since I built it three years ago with one of these cables going to 3 120mm fans and one 180mm fan. The three 120mm have blue LED lights (I have an Antec 900 case).
I don't really understand the technicals of the power supply, and neither the manual or Google are helping. The peripheral cable connects to the psu, as described by the manual, by a 6 pin cable with "12v2 Y" printed above it.
I was wondering if I could connect a molex cable (extension cable of sorts) to this peripheral cable and connect it to a solid state drive that I put in my case? Would this be too much power?
I actually did try this, and it worked, but then my USB ports stopped working. I'm not sure whether these two are related, but I'm trying to eliminate one thing at a time to figure out the problem.
Keep in mind that, other than the SSD, this cable only has the 4 fans connected to it. Could this have stopped by USB ports from not getting enough power to them somehow?
I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this.
