Broken laptop mousepad

I accidentally broke my laptop's mousepad while I opened it for some cleanup. The little plastic lock that maintain the flat cable between the touchpad and the mobo broken (I pulled it too strongly).
So I tried to maintain the cable with my hand and did the test but the touchpad isn't responding as if the little plastic lock was part of the mechanism...
Any ideas?

I don't think that the plastic lock (tab) is part of the circuit. However, the ZIF connector(s) may have dis-engaged. ZIF connectors have delicate unlocking tabs and be careful when you try to unplug/plug them.

Ok I have another laptop with a broken screen, I will take the ZIF connector from it and try it.

Yes that is a good approach. I have swapped parts from a broken Dell D 630 and installed then in other Dell 630s. Just be very careful with the delicate ZIF connectors.

Look for other (unrelated) connectors that may have jarred loose when the case was opened.

Is it possible that while you were putting the system back together some connector was forgotten? (I have done this while working on my cars and then had to go back to my digital pictures to check and see what was forgotten).

Hey thanks for your help. I'll take a look at it later, maybe another ZIF or a forgotten one could be the culprit.
