So I recently overclocked my cpu to 4.2ghz, but when I try to run intelburntest, it freezes my computer. All other programs and games run fine at that overclock but the burn test won't even start. Does this mean my overclock is automatically unstable? The temps are staying around 40 degrees Celsius, so at least in my understanding, it should be running fine. Thoughts or suggestions?

Solution
Yes, your overclock is unstable and the thing is with CPU's you are probably one of the unlucky people to get one that doesnt overclock very well.

also the i5 4670k is a sluggish overclocker.

prime 95 does the same or even more stress than intelburntest. he will get the same result with freezing

I'm using a Noctua nh-d14 and am overclocking through the UEFI BIOS on the Asus Z87-A motherboards. Also, I know this is off topic, but is there a good software to remove adware? It's starting to drive me crazy. I removed one adware program last night, but I believe two more still remain.

Well that's disappointing... but I think I'll be happy at 4.0 ghz for now or at least until I really need the performance. For the adware, I'm trying to manually go through the computer's files and regedit keys to try to delete every adware thread and add-on I can.
