Hello everyone,

Which CPU is the best for non-gaming tasks (general Windows use):
1) FX-6300
2) i3 4330.

Both are within my budget, but the FX-6300's benchmark is far higher on passmark. However, people have said that i3 performs 50% better on single-threaded tasks.

Which CPU would be best suited for me?

Thanks.

Night and day. The Power of the 6300 is in its raw processing power from the 6 cores, the power of the i3 is in its sheer speed. The stuff you plan to wouldn't take advantage of the 6300s 6 cores, but it would greatly benefit from the i3s speed.

I cannot recommend the i3 enough in this situation.

What about heaving multi-tasking? (20-25 tabs open on Chrome withHD video in the background)?
If I were to go with the i3, would it be worth it to save £20 by going for the i3-4130 instead of the 4330 and spend the £20 on a larger SSD?

Yeah, the 4130 will be plenty powerful, there's no need to spend the money on a 4330. What SSD are you thinking of buying?

On another thread, I've been told that any SSD in my price point will do the job. I initially was going to go with a Mushkin Chronos 120gb, but realised it had a sandforce controller, which is said to be unreliable. I've gone for the Crucial M500 120gb, which I think is the best option for my budget (max £60).

Yes, I'm getting a 7770 for £70.

your set up look good enough. if its only fifa then the i3 is good but if you change your mind and intend to play other games then i would recommend atleast the i5. just consider it. you dont upgrade every day :p

also about the ssd : Unreliable how? just wondering as i have bought the exact same sandforce drive to run my os and programs on and its working fine. bought it mainly because of the price. cant complain about the 14 sec boot up time :D
